Getting started
If I hire you, do I need to attend my hearing?
No. You authorize O’Day Harrison Grant as your agent by signing the appointment form online, and we take it from there. We prepare the protest, talk to the appraisal district and attend the hearing on your behalf.
What is Form 50-162?
It’s the Texas Comptroller’s Appointment of Agent for Property Tax Matters. Once it’s filed with the appraisal district, we can receive your notices and protest your value for you. You sign it online in a few minutes.
What information do you need from me?
For most properties, nothing beyond the signed appointment form. For rental and income-producing properties we also ask for an income statement and a property information sheet. You can upload them, along with photos or repair estimates, from your account.
The property is owned by a trust or an LLC. Can I still sign?
Yes. When you sign up, answer “Yes” to the entity question and enter the entity name and your role, such as trustee, managing member or property manager.
What rights do I give up by hiring you?
None. You remain the owner, your exemptions stay in place, and you can end the appointment at any time by sending a written revocation to the appraisal district.
The protest
What is the protest deadline?
May 15 for all property, or 30 days after you receive your notice of appraised value, whichever is later. Signing up before the deadline gives us time to build the strongest case.
Do you file written protests?
Yes. We file a written protest with the appraisal district for every property we represent.
Do you attend formal hearings?
Yes. As your agent we attend the formal hearing before the appraisal review board, unless the appraisal district agrees to a satisfactory reduction at the informal review first.
Do you represent clients in arbitration?
Yes. If the appraisal review board’s decision isn’t fair, we can represent you in binding arbitration for an additional fee.
Do you always get a reduction?
No one can guarantee a reduction. What we can promise is that we put our resources and more than 100 years of combined experience into making sure your property is assessed fairly.
Will a lower tax value affect my home’s listing price?
No. When you sell, your realtor sets the listing price from current market conditions and recent sales, not from the appraisal district’s value. Our job is to get your taxable value as low as the evidence supports.
What’s the difference between market value and appraised value?
Market value is the price the appraisal district believes your property would sell for on January 1. Appraised value is the value your taxes are based on; for a homestead, Texas caps how much it can rise each year, so it can be lower than market value.
Fees and licensing
How much do you charge?
One flat price per property for the tax year, set by the property’s market value. You see the exact amount before checkout and pay once at sign-up by card or Apple Pay. We never take a percentage of your savings. See the Pricing page for the price table.
How do I pay, and is my card safe?
At the last step of sign-up, by credit or debit card or with Apple Pay on a supported iPhone, iPad or Mac. Card details go directly to Authorize.net, our payment processor, over an encrypted connection — we never see or store your card number. Your receipt is emailed and saved in your account.
Are your consultants licensed?
Yes. All of our agents are licensed property tax consultants through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
How long have you been in business?
O’Day Harrison Grant has represented taxpayers since 1976.
